Tired of Farming for Gold?
Why not add a bit of excitement into the economy and a investment system. I would rather invest and maintain my portfolio than farm ^_^ ... because farming soon turns into a grind. It should be fairly easy to implement you can base the investments on already existant prices like rare meterials, or you can create a random stock economy that allows you to strike it rich or go broke trying. I think its a cool idea..
I saw a few threads about it dating far back as June of 2005 and even a thread in march before factions release, hoping for a stock market. Its a really cool idea that will get me back into the pve aspect of the game... you could make it more elaborate where you can get stocks by doing some difficult quest. I think its a very innovative concept that is fairly easy to implement. Instead of the annoying ectos you can go an a limb and trade stock for items.. ^_^.. i want to hear opinions... critizisms are welcome

Since there are no really any company or stock in the game world, it would just turn out as one big casino, which could get people excited about trying to hook young kind into gambling.
But you could speculate and try to make money that way, such as buy-low sell-high on the rere items, or as one guy did in one thread, where he bought bunch of steel before faction comes out, and sell it at higher price when people start getting the faction armors.
Ususually you make profit from the inperfertness of suppy and demand. If you can score to what demand people have, than you can earn big.
/notsigned on stockmarket
But I would introduce a material market... more on that later....

we could do the thing with animal crossing...they have a thing called the Stalk Market ;D
You buy turnips on sunday. throughout the week, you can sell it but prices change daily....if you dont sell by the next sunday, they rot.
so you have to learn how to wait for a price thats higher than when you bought it. XD

YES!
But, I'm afriad I don't like your idea. /notsigned I'd rather another way to make gold be added(Gold awards for PvP and auction House)
However, If you want to make money without farming just buy and sell ectos and shards. When there down low buy alot of them. When there up high sell them all.

that kind of trading (ecto) is only really profitable at the larger end of the scale
ie.. buying 1mill ecto @ 6k then selling for 8.5k, anything smaller isnt worth the hassle + ecto market isnt the most stable and prices can go down aswell as up
ecto trading is best left to those with "extra" funds just incase things go bad.

The game has an infinite gold supply, as players effectively make their own money whenever they go outside. I really don't think any standard economics model could predict how this "stock market" would behave...personally, I think it would crash miserably and often, as thousands of players all try to dump millions of gold into the system at once...
Honestly, way too risky. I'd prefer if ANet just added casinos and called them such. The dragon festival games were a step in the right direction...but something involving just a wee bit more skill would be nice.
Also: speculating on materials, items, etc is definitely possible in this game, and you can be quite the power trader by doing that.
Last thing...that "Stalk Market" thing...sounded really creepy the first time I read it. Like you were auctioning people to get stalked or something.

I have a counter-solution. How about in-game lottery? I know, I know, we already have chests... But seriously, just have an NPC where you can buy 'lottery tickets'. Have a certain date/time (in-game time, perhaps) when the drawing takes place, and the lucky player gets the Jackpot (equivalent to the total from ticket prices).

I like this idea a lot, but it will not achive the goal your shooting for.
But then again, it does fit the Skill>Grind quote of GW, so it could be considered

I like the idea but the first thing i would have done was invested in Sup Absorb before Faction well we all know what happened to them
Also i think people play this game to kinda get away from reality and this is a huge jump into reality

You could sell you faction for amber or jade and then sell that for gold.
